What is an essay? An essay is, by general definition, a written piece that presents the author’s argument However, the definition is rather ambiguous that covers all the elements that comprise a personal essay a report, an academic paper, a novel and even the short story. All of these kinds of essays always start with the question, “What?” The writer must then decide the best way to frame the question and how to answer it. The next step is to develop an outline for the essay. This plan can be described as stylistic, logical, or structural development. It could be that you wish to reach a particular conclusion.

Essays that present the basis for a specific thesis are known as descriptive essays. These essays are geared towards the achievement of a specific goal through technical, scientific or personal research. The emphasis is on the subject and the argument develops from that point. Some typical characteristics of a descriptive essay are identifying the issue and constructing a case developing an argument or thesis, showing analysis and research, presenting results and conclusions connecting the findings to the theory or the general theme of the essay, presenting a compelling argument to the audience and concluding with an invitation to readers to think about the subject with him/her.

However, the difference between a descriptive essay and a prescriptive essay lies in the fact that the former is based on evidence based, while the latter merely repeats ideas already presented. These kinds of essays tend to be significantly shorter than expository essays. Additionally, they do not have the intricate structure that expository essays have. They are also easier to understand, retain and read due to their content is simpler and less complicated.

An expressive essay is a distinct type of essay. An expressive essay is one in which the writer is more creative than any other means. This kind academic paper writing of essay demands that the writer develop and communicate ideas in a manner that makes the ideas and arguments be noticed by the reader. Such an essay requires an expressive writing style. Another distinctive feature of this type of essay is that it lays out its arguments and ideas in such a manner that the reader can grasp them and relate them to their own ideas and values.

Non-expository essays do not depend on the strength and logic of the argument. Instead, they focus on explaining the concepts in a way that is easy to understand for the readers. These essays differ from descriptive ones in that the writer does not have to present their arguments. The content of the essay is determined by the writer’s writing style and how they communicate the message. An excellent example of such a work is an ethical or philosophical essay.
